Purpose of the role
As a Payroll Specialist, you will be a key member of the Dutch Payroll team based in Amsterdam, part of AkzoNobel’s HR Function. You are responsible for delivering accurate, timely, and compliant payroll for employees in the Netherlands, including payroll for employees who work internationally.
This role is ideal for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys working in a multinational and fast-paced environment, combines strong analytical skills with a customer-focused mindset, and actively contributes to improving payroll quality and processes.
Your role
You will lead the monthly payroll control process, performing detailed checks, validations, and analyses to ensure accuracy and compliance. You will serve as the payroll expert for international assignments and act as the primary contact for internal stakeholders, employees, and external accounting partners.
You will handle complex payroll cases and second-line support requests, ensure timely payments to tax authorities and pension funds, and work in line with Dutch legislation and internal control frameworks. In close collaboration with the People Services Center in Pune (India) and our external payroll provider, you will safeguard data accuracy, service quality, and adherence to agreed service levels.
Beyond day-to-day operations, you will play an active role in continuous improvement initiatives, using payroll analytics to identify risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities. You will also contribute to cross-functional projects aimed at standardization, quality, and efficiency, and proactively propose improvements during post-payroll reviews.
What you bring
You hold a bachelor’s degree or have equivalent experience and bring at least four years of payroll experience, preferably in a complex or multinational environment. You have strong knowledge of Dutch payroll, including compliance and controls, and proven experience with expatriate and impatriate payroll.
You are fluent in Dutch and English, comfortable working with large datasets in Excel, and known for your analytical skills, accuracy, and structured way of working. You are proactive, solution-oriented, able to work under pressure, and enjoy collaborating within an international team.
