Shape the Future of Insurance in a Transforming Global Organization

At AkzoNobel, we make paints and coatings that bring colour and protection to the world around us. Our products can be found on everything from homes and buildings to ships, cars, and critical infrastructure. Behind every innovation, every customer promise, and every business decision is a strong foundation of risk management and resilience.
This is where you come in.

We are looking for an experienced Insurance Manager to join our global in-house Insurance Department (AIS). This is a unique opportunity to operate at the centre of a multinational organization, influencing how one of the world's leading coatings companies protects its people, assets, operations, and balance sheet.
As Insurance Manager, you will not simply manage policies—you will help shape the way AkzoNobel approaches risk on a global scale.

Your Impact

Imagine working in a role where every day brings a different challenge.
One day, you may be negotiating insurance structures with leading international insurers. The next, you could be advising senior stakeholders on risk financing strategies, supporting a business acquisition, or helping integrate insurance programs during a major corporate transformation.
You will be part of a highly specialized international team that works across continents and business functions. Together, the team manages a sophisticated insurance landscape supported by more than 35 insurers, multiple external brokers, an in-house broker, and AkzoNobel's own captive insurance company.
In addition, AkzoNobel is currently preparing for an exciting new chapter through its planned merger with Axalta. This creates a unique opportunity to play a key role in one of the most significant insurance integration projects in our industry.

What You Will Be Doing

As Insurance Manager, you will:
•    Develop and implement global risk financing strategies that protect AkzoNobel's balance sheet and support business objectives.
•    Lead the design, renewal, and optimization of global insurance programs.
•    Build and maintain strong relationships with insurers, underwriters, brokers, and other external partners.
•    Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders on insurance and risk-related matters.
•    Support mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic business initiatives.
•    Help develop insurance expertise within our regional insurance hubs in Brazil, China, and the United States while supporting local insurance activities in those regions.
•    Manage contracts and service agreements with external service providers.
•    Contribute to the insurance workstream associated with the planned integration of AkzoNobel and Axalta.

Who You Are
You are someone who enjoys combining strategic thinking with practical execution. You can navigate complex international environments, build trusted relationships, and translate technical insurance concepts into clear business advice.

You bring:
•    A master’s degree in law, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
•    Approximately 5–7 years of experience within the international insurance market, gained at a multinational company, broker, or insurance carrier.
•    A valid WFT qualification (Wet Financieel Toezicht).
•    Fluency in both Dutch and English.
•    Strong analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
•    The ability to work effectively across cultures and functions in a global organization.

Beyond your experience, you are proactive, collaborative, and naturally curious. You enjoy solving problems, building partnerships, and creating practical solutions that help businesses move forward with confidence.

What We Offer

At AkzoNobel, you'll join a company that has been recognized as one of the top employers in the Netherlands and is committed to building a more sustainable future.
In return for your expertise and contribution, we offer:

 An attractive and competitive salary.
•    Annual bonus opportunity
•    30 vacation days per year.
•    8% holiday allowance.
•    Travel expense reimbursement.
•    Hybrid working model
•    Extensive learning and development opportunities to support your long-term career growth.

Why AkzoNobel?
This role offers something that is increasingly rare in the insurance market: the opportunity to influence global insurance strategy from within a leading multinational organization.
You will work on complex international risks, collaborate with senior stakeholders, and play a visible role in shaping the future of a business operating in more than 150 countries.
If you are looking for a position where insurance is a strategic business enabler—not just a compliance requirement—we would love to hear from you.

At AkzoNobel we are highly committed to ensuring an inclusive and respectful workplace where all employees can be their best self. We strive to embrace diversity in a context of tolerance. Our talent acquisition process plays an integral part in this journey, as setting the foundations for a diverse environment. For this reason we train and educate on the implications of our Unconscious Bias in order for our TA and hiring managers to be mindful of them and take corrective actions when applicable.
