Job Purpose

The position is about creating opportunities for AkzoNobel for spend optimization through applying procurement insights and best practices. Contracts agreed upon should reflect these opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver contribution to the execution of overall category strategy and drive results in line with the strategy: 
    • Responsible for a subcategory, with a total expected spend of up to € 100M
    • Challenge stakeholders on the status quo in order to identify new opportunities 
    • Agree actions with internal stakeholders to realize cost savings and/ or avoidance, payment term improvements, master data improvements, drive the use of catalogs, spend consolidation
    • Apply the latest market insights in developing a subcategory strategy
    • Realize objectives in line with (sub-)category strategy 
  • Act as a key account manager for selected suppliers in the (sub-) category
  • Develop suitable contract templates in co-operation with Legal and stakeholders
  • Routinely develop deep market understanding and benchmarking for the industry 
  • Ensure that performance KPI’s are a correct representation of reality 
  • Execute (electronic) RfP processes
  • Negotiate contracts and manage supplier performance in co-operation with the business
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders; key stakeholders are functional leaders, as well as procurement peers in the regions
  • Promote adoption of post-Next Step new way of working through identifying opportunities for guided buying and support projects during role out
  • Be an ambassador for process adherence throughout the whole company in line with policies & procedures

About you:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA or equivalent work experience desired
  • At least 10 years in an international purchasing or commercial role; at least 3 years experience in the applicable category
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Good category expertise and sourcing/procurement experience and proven track record in Supplier and Contract Management
  • Excellent communicator with different management layers in different functions (Operations, Procurement) and in different parts of the company (BU, GBS)
  • Influencer who can drive category strategies, develop pricing models, and creates impact across all levels of an organization
  • Project management and change management experience (experience in Continuous Improvement (CI) and Lean Six Sigma is a plus)
  • Thinker and Do’er: understand the big picture & integration points; take personal accountability and ownership of tasks and deliver results
  • Ability to build relationships across the organization and all geographic regions 
  • Quick learner; absorbs information and concepts quickly
  • Procurement accreditations (e.g. CPM/APICS) desirable
