Let's paint a picture of the role

The Data Scientist supports Internal Audit in its strategy to transform into a data driven function and reports into to Senior Audit manager in charge of Data & Analytics. The data scientist enables value-added insights via development and execution of data analytics and data visualizations to support the global internal audit function.

The Data Scientist role is expected to also join some audits as auditor, to experience how audits are performed and to help identifying improvement areas in utilizing data.
 

Responsibilities

  • Supports internal audit in identifying risk areas, planning, audits and review of controls testing using different Data Analytical tools and techniques;
  • Translates requirements from Internal audit in obtaining an understanding of business data and translate into useable analytics/insights;
  • Obtains the necessary data (and tools) to identify, design and develop insights; 
  • Designs and develops advanced risk analytics to support (annual) audit plan;
  • Provide central, independent, common and easy access to key data for audit work;
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders to support our data access and analytical capability to meet current and future requirements.
  • Supports the wider development and deployment of Data Analysis skills and competencies within AkzoNobel Internal Audit Function;
  • Provide internal audit staff training in use of data analytics tools / developments / techniques;
  • Update audit staff on new developments.
     

What do you need to have to be successful in this role?

Education
Bachelor or master’s degree preferably in computer science, information technology, artificial intelligence, accounting, auditing, economic or business administration. Experience in audit profession is preferred.

Experience

  • At least 5 years of data analytics experience ideally with experience in public accounting and/or in a large internal audit function and/or large or mid-sized international manufacturing company;
  • Understand various data structures and common methods in data transformation and excellent pattern recognition and predictive modeling skills;
  • Experience with data processing, database programming, data analytics and visualization tools (such as… ETL, SQL, Alteryx, IDEA, MS Power BI, Celonis, Databricks, MS Fabric…..).

  • Sensitive to deadlines and budget constraints;

  • Detail oriented;
  • Experience and able to work with different cultures, management styles;
  • Excellent communicator (presentation and communication skills);
